U.S. Savings Bonds Ad from the 50s

US savings Bond adUS savings bond ad

Replayed from 1952

Imagine an ad from the 1950s and then consider the same U.S. Savings bonds still exist today! That’s right. You can still buy US Savings Bonds today and they will pay you interest if you keep them long enough. Back in the early 80s I had about 50 of them. They were $100 Savings Bonds and when I needed some extra money I cashed them in.

Nowadays I haven’t seen any recent ads for the bonds, but they are still around. The interest they pay is different and is tied into inflation. Also there is a minimum time period to hold the bonds before you can get any return on your money. But like then, US Savings bonds are a good bet. Also you don’t pay taxes on them until you cash them in. For more information go to the government website here. True to form, the US Government embraces the digital revolution and as of 2012 Savings Bonds have gone digital. Explore the Bonds through the timeline on their site.
